Filling all 1,610 seats of the Michigan Theater is no easy task, but Mario Nanos is hopeful. Nanos is the co-founder of Washtenaw Families against Narcotics (FAN), an organization dedicated to helping people struggling with Substance Use Disorder (SUD) and their families. Washtenaw FAN is partnering with the University of Michigan to hold an event at the Michigan Theater this Wednesday, March 8 from 7-9 p.m.
The event, “Prevention Starts with All: The Chris Herren Story”, features guest speaker Chris Herren, a former NBA player who will be talking about his personal history with SUD and his path to recovery. There will also be a panel discussion with experts from UofM including those with lived experience with SUD. The event is free but requires registration. The main goal of the event, according to Nanos, is to send the message that help is available.
“We want this community to be known for– you ask for help, you’re going to get it,” Nanos said.
