While most of the buildings on campus are shut down due to COVID-19, there are a number of services still available to students from the comfort of their own homes.
Although services have moved online, the Student Center, advisors, success coaches, and Bailey Library staff continue to operate at typical hours to allow students to keep in touch.
WCC posted an hour-long online webinar to YouTube on June 17 to “highlight the benefits of WCC online.” The webinar was hosted by Steve Bloomfield, the manager for recruitment and outreach at WCC. Additional faculty were featured as well.
A goal of the webinar was to “provide you with best practices to help you be a successful online student.”
Laura Beck, the success coach for the business career technical programs at Washtenaw explained information about success coaching, describing it as “an extra layer of accountability for you.”
“It can be a really good partnership for you to help you get through and navigate your college experience and journey successfully,” Beck said.
Virtual appointments are now scheduled through email if a student needs to meet with a success coach or advisor. To be pointed in the right direction quickly, Student Connection has a live chat that they operate during their usual hours.
“Academic Advising continues to be offered and we have implemented drop-in advising through Zoom, as well as group advising workshops for new students,” said Grace Fama, the success coach manager.
WCC is also “rolling out a new Success Coaching Co-Curricular Pathway in Campus Connect, with many different self-guided and real-time workshops and experiences,” Fama added.
In addition, rules for the testing center have also changed. Students with an ACT or SAT score that places them at college level in reading and writing or submit a high school transcript with a GPA of 3.0 or higher automatically qualify for a level 6.
