The Washtenaw Voice was recognized by the Michigan Press Association college division with awards for graphic design, writing and photography published during the 2018-19 academic year. The awards were announced last Thursday.
In graphic design, the judges awarded:
- First place in non-front page design: Vardan Sargsyan for his Jan. 14, 2019 feature front, “An aerial glimpse into WCC history.” Jan. 14, 2019
- Sargsyan also won second place in front page design. That award was based on a sample of three front pages.
In writing categories:
- Voice editor Lilly Kujawski won first place in the feature story category, for the Feb. 25, 2019 story “Student rewrites his story.”
- Kujawski also won first place in the category “best writer.” That award was based on a sample of three stories.
In photography:
- Former Voice photo editor Lily Merritt won second place in news photo for an April 8, 2019 front-page image accompanying the story “Marchers take to the streets to protest sexual violence.”
