$2250 RAISED INCLUDING $30 IN DONATIONS

For a second year in a row, the Empty Bowls event helped raise more than $2,000 for locals struggling with hunger. Beginning originally more than 20 years ago, Empty Bowls has made its mark across the United States, raising awareness and even helping those who may struggle across WCC’s campus.

The Empty Bowls event incorporated many different departments at WCC. With all proceeds going to Growing Hope and WCC’s food pantry. Gray Bancroft | Washtenaw Voice

The ceramics and culinary departments, along with life sciences, partnered again to not only showcase the talents of students when it comes to cooking and ceramics, but also to help educate WCC students about the national and world hunger crises.

Students, faculty and staff donated to the cause by purchasing a ceramic bowl for $20 which was made personally by a WCC student. The purchase also included a meal of soup and bread from Garrett’s, with the meal being prepared by their very own culinary students. All proceeds went toward supporting WCC’s food pantry along with local non-profit organization Growing Hope.
